Ode To Storing Dishes

Due to my sore arm & wrist, I am going to have to repost my last year's
"Ode To Storing Dishes" for
The Tablescaper's

Second Blog-aversary Party.
Not much has changed in how & where things are stashed anyway...there's just

MORE of it than last year.Link

There's a Party at The Tablescaper's Blog Today!!

Come join in the fun & see where everyone else

stashes their addiction!

My Ode to Dishes

(with apologies to Elizabeth Barrett Browning)

How do I STORE thee, oh beautiful dishes?

Let me count the ways.
(and places!)

I store thee to the depth and breadth and height

of every closet...

(Tablecloths hang inside & napkins on shelves)

My arms can reach, when feeling in the night

For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.

I stash thee to the level of every day's

Most quiet place, by sun and candle-light.

I buy thee freely, as men strive for Right;

I wash & polish thee purely, as they turn from Praise.

I gather thee with a passion put to use

In my old griefs & with my childhood's faith.

I purchase thee with a love I seemed to lose

With my lost sanity, --- I love thee with the breath,

Smiles, tears, of all my life! --- and, if God choose,

I shall but love thee better after death

'cus I am positive the Angels in Heaven do tablescapes, too!

Thanks to "The Tablescaper"
& a Happy Second Year of Blogging!!

for a chance to share

all our hiding...I mean storage places

for this obsession we call tablescaping.

It feels good to know we're not alone in

our addiction!

  9. Great job on the poem and the dish storage. Very creative in both areas! I envy you your basement, although I'm sure my lack is keeping my collecting in check. {not sure if that is good or not}

Love your blog and your tablescapes. You always do such beautiful tables.

  12. OK this was very funny and clever! I love how you showed the tablescapes and then the storage for seasonal items. Great fun. Under the couch, I admire that...I have trouble getting up and down so not practical for me. I am inspired to get even more organized now!

  16. Well that was fun. I have to say that I've never known anyone to keep things under a sofa, but of course I've never looked! I am glad to see that I'm not the only one who seems to have a house filled with "things"! I loved seeing all the past tablescapes.

  17. I knew you had to have places for storage all over your house. You just have too much to have them all on one floor too. Do you have any room left for more? (Because I'm SURE that you're not done yet.) Fun!

  18. You have found the greatest hiding places....I'm taking notes! Love it!

  19. Oh, Rett! This is priceless! Love your little turn of words here! How appropriate! ;) Love seeing all your stashes of dishes and loved knowing that you stash under the bed and sofas! :)

  20. I really enjoyed your post, Rett, very entertaining, lol. Lucky for me, I have not used bedrooms and under the beds for storage yet. That means, I can buy more dishes, right? LOL! Thanks for the tip on posting missed pics. I love your green depression glasses!....Christine

  22. Oh Rhett, you are too funny! An ode, no less! I love how you labled the photos!

Now you've given me some real inspiration. I don't think I have any dishes under beds - or sofas, but I could!!!!

It is so fun to share our addiction. As with any addiction, we never have enought - but not all addictions have storage issues. But, as I say to my husband (who truly is a saint about all of this) I could have a worse habit.

The best part about blogging is that we get to use it all. Sure I used it for holiday or when company was coming, but now I pull something out every week.

Thanks so much for sharing all of your stashing, umm I mean storing ideas!

  27. Oh my gosh, that was so funny! I thought I was the only one that had plates and platters, etc under my couch and chairs in the living room and of course under the beds. I'm happy you shared that with us, now I feel better knowing, I'm not the only one...

  32. Oh Rett, I don't know where to start. It was a breathtaking journey to the places you hide your treasures. Amazing for me are not only the places, you use for storage but also the amount of the tableware, you own. Oh my God, I guess, I should quit Tablescape-Thursday, because I am without any chance against you, folks!
I enjoyed your poetry and the nice pictures. And now I am very curious to see all this pretty stuff on the upcoming tablescapes.
Wish you all the best, Johanna

  41. I am so sorry you are still in pain. If I lived near I would take you for some retail therapy! We could get a double wide cart and I would push it! As long as you can walk...but there are always those scooters if that's a problem! Then we could attach another wagon to your scooter! :)
Get better soon so you can come out and play!

  42. I am loving this party. It's so fun to see where everyone stores all their dishes. They really can take over rather quickly, can't they? If I wasn't busy having to pack up to move, I would have loved to have joined in. I absolutely adore the photos in your blog header ~ they're gorgeous. Hope you are having a lovely weekend.

You are a dish addict! You hide your obsession so well, in all your nooks and corners and under the bed. I am in awe of your beautiful things you have collected, especially the glassware! Too bad we don't live close by. I would be such a pest borrowing things all the time!

  52. Rett, Thank you for adding my giveaway to your sidebar. And you are very clever with your dish storage! I had to chuckle at the under bed and under sofa storage. I have done that when company is coming and I only have 5 minutes to pick things up.

  53. Hi Rett - I'm so envious of the storage space you have but I know if I had more I wouldn't spread out what I have so I could access it better. I would just go out and buy a lot more stuff.

Thanks you so much for putting my button on your sidebar. I'm honored to be there. My blog move is a little traumatic but I'm thrilled with my new home. I hope your arm and wrist are better very soon.
