Thanksgiving Day, 2013

DSC_3661
I hope your Thanksgiving Day
was as full of fun & laughter as
"The Gazebo House "was yesterday!

We were lucky to have my beautiful daughter &
her family join us for dinner….seven all together at
the square table in the sunroom.

I kept the placesettings of rustic brown & more elegant
crème  & gold trimmed  Lenox china rather simple with just
the minimum of accessories needed.

Bohemian crystal stems for either water or wine…
or Rootbeer, as in Ms. C.’s case!

I used my Mother’s vintage cut glass basket,
filled with beaded & faux sugared fruit,
as a centerpiece until
the turkey platter took over center stage.

I used my new crystal butter dish for the first time.
I do seem to have an affinity for butter dishes!
I think this is #5.
This one can do double duty &
 be used upside down,
with a deeper well for horseradish or
a sauce of some sort.

I also cooked my stuffing in my Ninja
for the first time & it came out great!
I ♥♥♥ my Ninja!

Desserts of pumpkin, pecan & French silk pie
were set up off to the side on
their own little table.

I forgot to take pictures of the food,
once it was in place.
It gets rather hectic when my very
lively bunch arrives!

I did manage to grab my camera &
captured the BLUE HOUR as my
son-in-love was showing my oldest
grandson how to dissect the turkey.
“Anatomy Lesson 101”
I laughed as lots of technical terms were used..."tendons, cartilage, mediastinum"
(He’s a doctor...you could tell)

My Dad’s recipe for homemade rolls was a
BIG hit, especially with the little ones.
I think Ms. C. ate 3!!!
I’ll share that with you soon.
I’m too tired right now & I have
lots of dishes to put away!
Little Ms. C. slept overnight so I’ll have
a good helper today.
Thanks for visiting "The Gazebo House"…
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

  2. Rett,
Would love that recipe for the rolls! We had a lovely day with friends. Thanksgiving dinner is my favorite meal to cook and there are leftovers which I love almost as much as the meal itself. Today I will put the dishes away and not leave the house! Some reading, some leftovers, some knitting and most likely a nap. We will start the Christmas decorating tomorrow!
    Hugs,
    Carol

  3. Loved your pictures...especially the "carving" one! I figured you'd let the surgeon carve your bird! lol Glad you had a happy day!

  4. Happy Belated Thanksgiving, Rett!

I love it when doctors do things like carve turkey. LOL my BIL, now in Heaven, used to be Te world's most talented cook. He had wonderful hobbies from which we all profited.

So glad you have good help and that you plan to share the roll recipe.... YUM!

  5. My, you set a lovely table for your family gathering. A belated Happy Thanksgiving from me as well. I think I may have figured out Bloglovin, so I can visit everyone I follow. The email I get doesn't include half the people.

  7. Looks like you had a wonderful time! I love your setting. Our sunroom is closed for the winter, way too cold in there and the heat barely reaches it so that's why it's closed. The french doors look nice closed though. Any way, I love those autumn plates! So festive :)

  10. Hi Rett, Your tablescape is elegant. Perfect! Love your crystal pieces too. It was nice seeing your son-in-law and grandson working on the turkey. Your rolls look very good. I made my mom's rolls which also turned out very well. Nothing like homemade bread!

  11. There were seven of us for Thanksgiving here, too, but believe me, my table did not look like yours.

I have a glass basket similar to yours, but never knew what would look nice in it. Now, I know.

  12. Your table was lovely and it sounds like you had a great day. I had 16 family members at my house, and never got out the camera except to grab the new Christmas card photo that is also my new header. Fun and thankful!
Merry Christmas season to you and your family.

  13. Your tablesetting is beautiful. I know exactly what you mean about once the food is served there is no time for photos. And who wants to think about photos for blogging when the family is around? They are so much more important.

  16. I think your table was lovely, so elegant, and I'm sure everyone felt special that you'd taken the time to make it all so pretty for them. Love the butter dish, I don't blame you for getting another one when they're that pretty! I was just reading about the blue hour photography the other day. I want to give that a try soon! 18. Rett, your table looks so elegant, and I'm happy you had your daughter and family to share the holiday. Thank you for the sweet thoughts about my mom's passing. Yes, it is difficult even when we know one has lived a long full life.

  19. What a beautiful table you set! I'm sure your Thanksgiving must have been a wonderful family celebration.
I love your header, Rett! Do you think you'll get snow this year? We've had it on the Island already, and I'm missing it.
Thank you for dropping by to say hello and to check in on me during my blog break. Things are much better now and I am looking forward to Christmas.
