My “Countdown To Christmas” Quilt

Back in September,
I shared my "Countdown to Christmas"
quilt top, once I finished piecing it.

At that stage, it is called a "flimsy"
because it is so lightweight...
no batting or backing or quilting.

The star points are supposed to be
"wonky", as in different lengths &
with points not touching the edges.
They are to appear as if
they float within the
large white square.

The free pattern, called "Starrey Eyed Quilt"
(not a typo... that is how they spelled it)
is available on Moda's website
 HERE.

I picked it up from Janice at
The Ewe Tree... the gal who
does my the long arm machine quilting,
just in time for Christmas.
I was thrilled with how she quilted it!
I gave her free reign &
just told her to "have Fun doing it!"

 She does all hand-guided quilting,
nothing computerized.
I love how she placed swirls &
curly-Q's inside the squares.
That technique of juxtaposing patterns
always adds interesting contrast for the eye.

All month, I've had the quilt draped
 over the banister railing,
 leading downstairs,
where everyone who came to visit
could immediately see it.

I hate to put it away!
I think I'll leave it over the back
of the sofa in my sewing room,
where I can enjoy seeing it every day!

I hope YOU enjoyed seeing it today, too.
Thanks for stopping by The Gazebo House today.

  7. Hmmmm, my first comment did not go???? And, you know it is always more difficult to repeat.

Your quilt is so very beautiful...and I gushed a bit more about your long arm quilter and the terrific work she does, and then I wnt on and begged you to leave the quilt up a bit longer...and asked will you be replacing it with a beautiful blue one?

    1. Thank you Linda for "recreating" your lost comment...yes, it IS hard to repeat one. I appreciate you trying & I thank you for your kind words, too.
I have my blue Indigo Stars quilt hanging on the wall between the dining room & the great room. So far, that is the only truly "blue" quilt that I've made.
I'm going to try to get one with RED hearts completed before Valentines Day!!

  8. I love your quilt and the way your friend did the quilting. It is a piece of art. I would never take it down from the banister.
My sweet SIL pieces and quilts. She is also an artist and she has, what I think is a "long arm" quilting machine. It seems to extend all across her craft room. I didn't know the name of it. She also does her own designs.
Have you ever been to Paduach Ky? They have a quilting convention each year and I think a quilt museum. My daughter lives near but but I have never been. Need one of those "round tuits".
    Happy New Year, Ginger

    1. I've not yet been to Paduach, KY but it is on my *bucket list* for sure! I've been to the Houston, TX Quilt Show several times & can't wait to go back to that one again too.
I'm envious of your SIL's big quilting frame. Would love to watch her work sometime...it is fascinating!
Thank you for your kind words, too.

    1. Thank you, Nonie! I want to enter it into the show in the fall, so I really should put it out of the reach of the grandkidlets. Just my luck something would get spilled on it. After the show, I won't care but I'd like to keep it pristine just until then.

  12. It is a beautiful quilt and the quilting is amazing. Can you share what type of thread she used, it seems to be floating on top of the fabric. Elaine, fromtheseashore@yahoo.com

    1. Elaine, I have sent you an email but I honestly can't answer your question! I have no idea what name brand of thread she uses...all I know is that it is white! LOL
I know the effect that you're seeing & I think it is a trick of the camera, as the quilting doesn't "float on top" like you see in the picture. I've noticed that effect before & it has something to do with the light. OR the lack of it, I should say. We've have very grey days here in Ohio lately with lots of snow clouds.
