Scenes of Christmas

"Never put off till tomorrow, what you can do today."
~~Thomas Jefferson~~

This quote has been ringing in my ears since Friday!

I had just wrapped the last Christmas present & was hurrying outside to cut some fresh evergreens to put in a glass vase with cranberries & a floating candle,... like THIS ONE

when I tripped on the garage steps & fell down 3 steps!
I shattered the vase in my hand & cut it in
at least 7 places.

It took several stitches to close up a few of them.

My foot & ankle got progressively more swollen &
but the x-rays showed no broken bones.
I may have torn some ligaments & will perhaps
need an
MRI it doesn't improve by next week.

I felt like such a KLUTZ!!!!!!!

Thank goodness, most of my holiday preparations were done

Christmas Eve's dinner changed from beef tenderloin, scalloped potatoes, etc. to having my daughter pick up Chinese carry-out on their way over.

We sang "
Fa Ra Ra Ra Ra" around the table & still had a wonderful time!

Needless to say, typing is difficult & slow,
so I'll just use my right hand to upload some
Christmas photos
from around the house.

I’ll be around to visit after I heal a bit.

  1. Oh Rett, I'm so sorry but thankful that there appears to be no breaks and hopefully you will be good as new in no time.

Merry Christmas and well wishes to you and your family.

  2. No klitziness- it just happens. That's how I felt when I conked my head 2 yrs. ago, though. Hope you get back to normal soon. Let others help out and take care of you. :-)

  3. Oh, Rett, dear baby, talk about timing! and the pain and aggravation - I sure hope you recupe from this quickly. Take care of those hands. Keep them out of the sink and other goopy things. Tell Ern he has to wait on your hand and foot!;)

Hope you are all better soon and you and family have a wonderful and merry Christmas. Big hugs <<>>>

  4. Bless your heart Rett, it sounds like you were lucky to get away without a broken "something". Sit back, enjoy the holidays and let the family wait on you. Merry Christmas

  5. So sorry to hear about your fall Rett! I hope you continue to heal rapidly and am glad it was not a lot worse. On a brighter note, your scenes of Christmas around the house are absolutley beautiful! Take care and Merry Christmas!

  6. Rett! I'm so sorry about your fall! Those things can happen so fast! Glad to hear you don't think anything is broken. You had to get stiches? poor thing! Take care of youself and Fra ra ra ra is cute:)
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  7. I am so sorry to hear of your injuries! Your home and decorations are so lovely for the holidays, it is an excellent place to simply rest, enjoy and heal. I also loved seeing the sweet dress you made in the previous post! Merry Christmas!

  8. Sorry to hear you got hurt Rett! Glad it sounds like you'll be ok and that you had a nice Christmas. Pretty pics, love the ribbon candy:@)

  9. I just read about your accident on Jacqueline's Purple Chocolat Home!!! Poor thing! I feel so bad for you!! I know how much it must hurt physically, but for it to happen during this busy Christmas time had to hurt even more!!! Aw, man....that's just awful!!! I hope you are feeling a whole lot better sooner than later. Beautiful photos, and I must say that I like it that you are liberal with the paprika on the deviled eggs! :-) Have a SAFE and Happy New Year, Rett! Feel better!!!

  10. Rett, I am so sorry about your accident. You have beautiful photos to show of your house, and looks like a white Christmas! Take care!

  11. Hi, Rett. I'm soooo sorry about your fall!! Wow...bad foot and hand; that's really hard. Sounds like you've kept the right frame of mind, though--glad about that for you! I read your comment at Home is Where the Boat is and came right over to "visit" you. Your house looks lovely. My mother always buys ribbon candy and I bought some this year (not easy to find), but ended up not putting it out, because it's too much temptation for the little ones, and no point having to say "no" over and over :).
My best wishes for a quick recovery and for 2012. ~Zuni

  12. Oh dear! I always worry about tripping and injuring myself for life. I already limp enough!
    Praying that you heal quickly.

  13. So sorry to hear of your tumble. Merry Christmas.

  14. Rett, so sorry to here of your fall!! I know how you feel - I torn my groin muscles 3 weeks ago and have had such a battle to finish shopping, wrap gifts, decorate the house and prepare food while limping around. Really this was nothing compared to my husband...last night (Boxing Day night) he had a massive allergic reaction to something (we think it may be oysters) and ended up spending the night in hospital. He has been in bed all day today so I'm hoping he improves a lot by morning!! Here's to a great New Year!!

  15. Rett~ SO sorry to hear about your fall & hand! I hope your foot continues to improve and it's just a bad sprain! Your decorations are beautiful and I'm glad your wrapping was all wrapped up :) Hope you have a wonderful Christmas despite that! Happy New Year Healing Wishes to you!

  16. I knew that if I put that out there, someone would remind me who's blog it was! I am going to go and edit my post because I wanted to give you credit for the song, but couldn't remember who (I read way too many posts!!!!) Thanks for the remembrance. I am sooo sorry to hear about your accident. I am glad nothing is broken. I hate those kinds of things, but hey wasn't it wonderful to see others pitch in and help. Hope you weren't in too much pain to enjoy Christmas!

  17. Everything looks so festive, thank goodness you had it all done. Now you can sit with your leg up on a stool and enjoy looking at it. I think I have that same polka dot red it old? Mine is.
    Love your new pitcher!
I hope you are feeling better day by day!
I am so happy you are ok, to enjoy your filet mignon another day!

  18. Oh, no, Rett! I am so sorry -- I know that little interruption was NOT in your plans for Christmas! I'm glad you're mostly okay. Take care and give yourself time to heal!

  19. Oh I am so sorry to hear about your fall Rett. How fortunate you had your preparations done. I'd say, take a book and a favorite drink and relax for a few days!
    Happy 2012!!

  20. Rett, I'm just now reading this. So sad you had this happen. Glad to know that you are healing. Suppose you are lucky you didn't break a bone or have that glass do more damage than it did. You must be sore! Know that I am thinking about you and wishing you a speedy recovery. ~ Sarah

  21. Oh Rett! I am so sorry to hear about this! I know you feel klutzy, but we have all been there and done that kind of thing! Thank goodness that it wasn't worse. Take care and heal quickly!

  22. So sorry to hear about your accident! Glad to hear you are a little better!

Your decorations are all so beautiful! Love the one of the ribbon candy, haven't seen that in a few years!

    Happy New Year!

Thank you so much for leaving a comment. I read them all & each one is so very special to me & I try really hard to return the visit!
