Summer Flowers
We’ve had a very hot, dry summer this year in Ohio!
I’ve had to water my roses & hydrangeas every single morning.
I go out bright & early to avoid the heat & sun.
They have rewarded me with tons of beautiful blooms for gathering all summer long.
Even my lilac tree beside the Gazebo’s decking, has bloomed for a second time this year!
I got a kick out of this one little branch, peeking through the railings.
The hydrangeas have been beautiful this year but are starting to wane a little now.
They’ll be just as pretty dried, though.
I cut them & hang them upside down to dry in the basement.
My sweet Ms. C. loves PINK, so I try to plant as many shades of it I can find.
Geraniums, petunias, roses…you name it.
With two older brothers, anything that was PINK belonged to her.
As a baby, she would point & say “MY PINK!” anytime she saw something that color.
It is still her favorite color!
I’ve been keeping cool by sewing each day in the downstairs level.
I created & monogrammed 5 polka-dot pockets, which I then sewed onto contrasting colored t-shirts for Ms. C.
She took them home before I could snap a photo…darn it! They turned out cute & her phone fits into the pocket perfectly.
I plan to make a few pockets for my nightgowns, so I’ll have a place to keep my phone on me in the evenings or early morning.
I worry about falling, now that I live alone, so I try to keep my phone on me at all times.
Thanks for stopping by The Gazebo House today. I’ll come visit you soon!

Your garden is stunning and I love pink also. Unfortunately our gardens in CA look pitiful due to the drought.
ReplyDeleteI also keep my cell phone on me also as I live alone and now that I am olden I try to be extra careful.
Have a wonderful weekend Rett.
Mary
Your garden looks beautiful, Rett! I love that Ms C still loves pink to this day. I'd love to see the pockets that you created. Hopefully you'll make more and you can share them on a post. Stay nice and cool, creating in your basement sewing room. It's so hot here, that just going out to water, is an exhausting experience! I had cooking/art camp here yesterday, and I had to sit an recuperate after they left.
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are so pretty. The pale green hydrangeas are my favorite. I hear you on worrying about falling. I live alone also, and no children, so falling is a worry. To keep your phone close, what about a small draw string bag on a narrow strap to toss around your neck? You would not want something open where the phone would fall out, in the event you fell. That is a consideration I am making, as I don't always have a pocket on my clothing. If you (we) fell and had the phone in our hand, we might drop it. Although I am not an "old lady", I have turned 65 and safety is on my mind. May sign up for one of those button things you wear around your neck so you can call for help.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers, Rett. We've had a coolish kind of summer here. I've never heard of a lilac blooming again - it must be a little confused. Sewing in a cool basement is a great way to spend the hot days.
ReplyDeleteRett, your gardens are beautiful. Loving the pink blooms. Your entry is absolutely gorgeous. Loving how it looks so tall and welcoming. I so admire your sewing talent and what you create. I don't blame you for w acting to sew pockets in your night gown. One never knows what can happen and it is important to have your cell phone with you. I hope you are staying cool. Hugs, Linda
ReplyDeleteRett, you garden is lovely. It's refreshing to see, as the heat here has things looking wilted and tired. I'm not sewing, but I stay inside too when I can. '-)
ReplyDeleteHope all is good.
I'd be happy with that pink garden too Rett - so pretty!
ReplyDeleteWe haven't had a lot of heat up here but each day ends up sunny and warm enough for the beach. We have had a dry summer, as usual, so there is always hand watering to be done!
Beautiful flowers! It's been unusually hot here too. I would love for you to share photos of your pockets sometime. I bet they are adorable! Though I live with my husband I am also learning to keep my phone near me at all times as well, especially if he's at work. I had such a habit of keeping it in my purse when I worked and now that I'm at home I really need to remind myself to check it more. I hope you stay safe, sweet lady!
ReplyDeleteI am constantly trying to find my phone as I have no pockets on my night shirts..that is an awesome idea so I hope to do the same...during the winter, I wear a robe in the mornings and evenings with pockets...
ReplyDeleteYou have some beautiful flowers...ours are not as pretty this late in summer ...and we have to water every day...sometimes 2 times on the really hot, windy days.
xoxo
I love your pretty in pink garden Rett! It's been hot and dry here too until we got a week of much needed rain. It was nice to have a week free from dashing out the door in the early morning hours to beat the heat and humidity and lugging a hose around my potting shed. I wish we could grow lilacs here, what a treat to enjoy a second bloom! I bet your monogrammed pockets were adorable :)
ReplyDelete..back by to say thanks for stopping over at my place...hope your day is going good..xo
ReplyDeleteI love all your flowers, Rett! and everything you do! I always look forward to your blog!
