New toy!

DSC_3856

Don't you hate it when bloggers start off saying they've been "too busy to blog"
...as if, other people aren't busy, too?

HOWEVER, I have a very good excuse this time!!!!

That truck brought my "NEW TOY" to the house on May 3rd & it has been crazy-busy-fun times ever since.
I bought a 26" Innova Long Arm quilting machine on a 12' frame.
It has Auto Pilot robotics & Lightening Stitch,
which is their super-D-duper stitch regulator that can do consistently even stitches, up to 3000/min.
I could never quilt that fast!

Prior to arrival, I spent days cleaning/clearing spaces, & rearranging furniture to make room for it.

This is only 1/3 of my sewing room...the other areas have my sewing machine, serger & long cutting table.  There is just as much room on the other side, where DH has his work bench & I have my fabric stash...AKA "the dry goods store".  *wink*

I feel so blessed to be able to play & create in such a lovely area. It is what sold us on buying this house in the first place & I will never take it for granted.
I used to sew in a VERY small corner of our master bedroom in FL.  This is SEW much better!!

DSC_3859

It took their technician, Rick, two full, very long days to assemble it.
It has taken me much longer to get the hang of using it!

There is a learning curve to it, no doubt about it, but thankfully, the software is very similar
to my Embird program, that I've used for 15 years,
doing machine embroidery.

Auto Pilot comes already loaded with 532 different, very beautiful designs.
Some are specific for inserting into blocks & some look best when repeated, as in an edge to edge design or in long spaces, like sashing.

I've also found some freebies, online,
for using on Quilts of Valor.
(I am working on two of those right now...pictures soon)

DSC_3935

She is sleek & clean-modern looking & glides like a dream...
not heavy or jerky at all.

You'll have to help me think of a name for her.
All suggestions are welcome!

Don't you ♥♥♥ the pretty Turquoise COLOR I picked for my saddle chair?

We drove 5 hours, to Accomplish Quilting in Stevensville, MI for me to attend classes on its operation.
They are very knowledgeable people with wonderfully helpful attitudes!
I highly recommend them.

My first project (after a few practice sandwiched swatches)
was this little baby quilt for my great niece, who is due in July.

I used an overall pattern, aka *edge to edge* quilting, called "Celtic Braid" that is built into the Auto Pilot program.
I thought that was appropriate for a baby who is the great-great granddaughter of my very Irish Mom, Peggy O'Neil.

Then, I made TWO quilts, exactly the same, to go over the foot of the cream bedspreads I have on the twin beds in my guest room.

It will be nice for the grandkidlets to curl up & snuggle under THESE quilts, when they visit, rather than climb under the bedspreads, just to read a book or watch TV.
I won't have to remake the beds either!  LOL

The edge to edge quilting pattern is called "Green Tea Leaves", by One Song Needle Arts.

To make the quilts, I followed this free pattern, called "Jelly Roll Jam" on the Fat Quarter Shop website.  Easy~Peasy!

There is even a wonderful video to show you how it is done.
It looks much more complicated than it really is.

These took 2 jelly rolls apiece to make.  The video shows a baby sized quilt, made with only one jelly roll, so keep that in mind.

In hindsight, I wish I would have done a solid color binding on them.  I think it would have set it off nicer & looked much better.  It was a learning process & I'll do better next time.  I can't wait to make another one!

I used the narrow, 3" wide strips that were leftover from the construction of these, to make a baby quilt with wide, white strips in between.  Very modern looking! It is not yet quilted, so you'll have to come back to see it.
I'm calling it "Leftover Jelly Rolls".  ~big grin~
I crack myself up, sometimes!  LOL

Anyway, that explains my absence from blogging.  I thank you so much for visiting The Gazebo House today.

I hope that you'll come back to see more quilty goodness in the future.  I'm having SEW MUCH FUN!!!

By the way, the KISS quilt auction brought in $1400!!!
My two little projects:

sold for $40 & $50 respectfully.
I was astounded & honored that someone would pay that much for something I'd created.

I'm linking up with Marty's "Inspire Me Tuesday" at her blog, A Stroll Thru Life.  Thanks Marty for hosting the party!

Memorial Day & K.I.S.S. Quilt Guild Auction

We prepare to honor our fallen heroes tomorrow,
never forgetting the ultimate sacrifice they made.
All three of my grandkidlets will be marching in
our local Memorial Day parade.
One a Girl Scout, one a Boy Scout &
one a high school band member.
Other posts about this day can be seen
here & here.

 The day after Memorial Day,
my K.I.S.S. Quilt Guild is
having an Auction!

DSC_3852

I've been busy working on it for a long time!
All the donations were measured,
photographed & cataloged,
along with the quilt maker &
pattern information,
 (if available).

This will be a LIVE auction & we are expecting some
very LIVELY bidding to take place,
(with paper plates as paddles)!

DSC_3817

My granddaughter, Ms. C., visited recently &
has put in her requests for me to bid on...LOL...
I better bring plenty of cash!

Three prizes will be awarded that day:

One for "Best Use of Color & Cloth",
One for "Viewers' Choice" &
One for "Over-Achiever".

I wish I knew how to insert a voting poll so YOU could take part, online, in the judging.  I will have to put that on my bucket list of things to learn how to do.

There is an amazing amount of talent & diversity in this group & I'm proud to be a part of it.

Thanks for stopping by The Gazebo House today.
I appreciate your visits & comments.

The sadness over my nephew & nieces deaths is softening somewhat & we've also had some fun times with a recent visit of another niece & her husband from Colorado.
Nothing like young people to get you laughing again!

Quilty Goodies

DSC_3941

I'm 'hopping' in here to wish you a very Blessed Easter!

We're busy preparing for a brunch here at our house after early Sunday morning church services.

The table can't be fully set until sometime on Saturday, so no pretty tablescape to share with you, just yet.  I'll be in full cooking mode about then, too.  I'm serving Honey Baked ham, along with bacon done on trays, in the oven, my favorite cheesy hash browns, (click for recipe), any type of eggs for the few who want them & homemade Belgium waffles for the majority of the crowd.  Time consuming to make each individual one but soooo worth it!  The batter is made the night before so the yeast can ferment.  I'll share that recipe very soon...it is YUMMO!

In the meantime, thought I'd share with you a few items that I've been sewing, between bouts of  Spring cleaning.  (We're getting company from Colorado next month & I want the house to sparkle!)

DSC_3942

I was inspired by my online sewing friend, MamaCJT to make a little mug rug for my K.I.S.S. quilt guild's auction that is coming up next month.

I used my Embird software to repeat the little cupcake design on the red dot fabric, then stitched HALF of a cut doily up against the embroidery, to resemble a lacy tablecloth.

DSC_3944

I found this cute polka-dot mug to match  (you KNOW how much I ♥♥♥ polka-dots...especially RED ONES!)

I filled it with some chocolate kisses because every quilter I know, loves chocolate & then wrapped the top with Peel n' Stick, to hold them in place.  Tied a bit of the leftover binding onto the handle & Viola'.

DSC_3943

Since I cut a crocheted doily in half to make the mug rug & I ♥♥♥ how it turned out so much,
I decided to use the OTHER half of the doily to make myself another one!

I put a little hanging sleeve on the back of it along with little white plastic rings on both items, so either of them could be hung from a nail or placed on a display rack, like you see mine below.

DSC_3946

Won't it look cute next to my Baker's rack, when I get out all my red polka-dot items?

Below, you can see the one that MamaCJT made that inspired me so much.  I just left off the green holly leaves, as I didn't want mine to be used just for Christmas.

Thanks Carol for giving me permission to do this.
I always say "I only copy from the best."

One project I worked on was for another one of my quilt guilds that I belong to...Memory Makers.  The members got together & made a "Friendship Star" quilt for an ailing member.  We were given the pattern & a suggested choice of colors to use.

They had so many stars contributed to the project that they had to use many of them on the backing too.  We were told the day the quilt was delivered to her in the hospital, she had just been complaining about being cold.  I hope she felt the warmth & the love that was stitched into every block!

The PURPLE stars with the LIME GREEN centers are the ones I made.

It took several attempts to get my points to look close to perfect.  Next week, I'll show you what I'm doing with those 'no-so-perfect-blocks' later on.  It was an *interesting experiment*, shall we say.

DSC_3775

Yes, SPRING has finally arrived in Ohio!!  We had a dreadfully long, cold winter, so the warmth & sunshine & pretty flowers popping out all over are especially welcome now.

I have lots & lots of hyacinths coming up along the front & sides of the house.  I adore their fragrance & will cut a few to bring in to the table for Easter morning!

I hope you get outside & can enjoy some nice weather where you live.  It really lifts one's spirits!
