Gluten Free White Wine Cake

DSC_3368 labeled

I FINALLY got my new computer back from the repair shop the other day, after getting hit with a virus, even
though I had brand new Kaspersky Security protection installed as soon as I turned it on.

That computer had the rest of my "Mystery Ingredient Club"  photos on it....
you remember all the Halloween Sprinkles we played with last week, right?

This gluten free white wine cake was served at our Memory Makers quilt guild meeting recently
and everyone raved about it.
I begged the quilter, Eileen, who made it, for the recipe
(Thank you, Eileen!) & she was kind enough to share it with me so I could now
share it with you, too!

DSC_3377

We thought it had apples in it when we first tasted it...

it does remind me of my apple cake recipe, too.
In order to reduce some of the calories in both recipes,

I substitute applesauce for the oil called for.

You do whatever you like...I couldn't tell any difference!

White Wine Cake

¼ cup chopped pecans

1 box yellow Gluten Free cake mix (reg. cake mix works, too, if you're not concerned about gluten)

3oz. instant vanilla pudding

¾ cup water

¾ cup oil

2 tsp. cinnamon

4 eggs

¼ c brown sugar

¼ c white sugar

½ c white wine

Glaze

½ c margarine

1 c sugar

¼ c water

¼ c white wine

Grease and flour 10”bundt pan. (I used sugar instead of flour for gluten free method)

Sprinkle nuts in the bottom of pan. Mix remaining cake ingredients with an electric mixer until well blended, about 3 minutes. Pour into pan and bake at 350 degrees. Bake for 1 hour and 10 minutes***. About 10 minutes before cake is done, begin glaze.  Boil margarine, sugar, and water for 2 minutes. **** Remove from heat and then add wine.

Pour half of glaze over hot cake. Let stand 10 minutes. Turn onto serving platter and pour other half of glaze over top of the cake.

Serves 10

Refrigerate...it tastes even better the 2nd day.

I found this last photo that shows another way I used Michael Lee's Halloween sprinkles.
This was the focal point in the center of a loooong food table, filled to the edges with delicious homemade food
contributions to our family reunion last month.

I'll try to share those photos with you
soon, but since the new computer went BACK to the repair shop this morning...AGAIN!!!
It might be a little while.
I hate working on this laptop!
I'm linking to her Foodie Friday party over at Rattlebridge Farm as well as The Tablescaper's Seasonal Sundays.
 Won't you join me there?

Streetsboro Quilt Show

DSC_3458

I was fortunate to get to attend a quilt show over the past
weekend...TWICE!
I went the first day with my girlfriend, Robin & then I took Ms. C. with me the next day.

The first photo is the quilt that won the "Best of Show" ribbon and this second quilt, below

DSC_3459
was made by the gal who does such beautiful work on my quilts with her long arm quilting machine.  She won "Best Use of Color" but I think her quilting on this is magnificent as well.

DSC_3457

I tried to take photos of all the winners...the little quilt above won the "Best of Applique" ribbon
and the one below got "Best Machine Quilting".

DSC_3453

DSC_3454

Above is the "Judges Choice" award...lots of gold metalic thread play and below is "Best Hand Quilting".

Ms. C. could not believe all those teeny-tiny stitches were done by hand.
She spent a long time looking at it closely.

She knows not to touch the quilts unless they have a special card on them that shows you
where to grasp it to see the back.

DSC_3456

She was also enthralled with the all white quilt below...
so intricate!

DSC_3461

I counted & there were 28 BLUE RIBBON winners!
Each quilt goes into a specific category, based on several parameters, including size, machine vs. hand, etc.

DSC_3468

My photos don't do ANY of the quilts justice,
as I had to use my flash indoors with the limited lighting.

The jewel tones of the one above were just spectacular!
The quilter, Linda S., is in one of my quilt guilds & I must remember to tell her how much I loved it!

DSC_3471

This Halloween quilt was a BOM (block of the month) from the Polka-dot Pincushion,
a local quilt shop in Richfield, OH.

I wish I would have signed up to do it last year...it was Darling!

DSC_3472
There was a wide variety of styles in the show...
some primitive, like the one above,
some Civil War calico prints, like the one below.

DSC_3473

My friend, Robin & I both admired this one, below,  with the hearts, as we discovered that we were both married on the same day (Valentines Day) in the same year, too!

DSC_3475

DSC_3476

I took so many photos, that I'm going to have to do
two posts to share them all with you!

DSC_3477

DSC_3478

We all agreed, the RED & GREY
sampler block quilt would be
perfect for an Ohio State graduate!

DSC_3479

One of these days, I hope to make a Carpenters Star quilt, like the one below.  Very Pretty!

DSC_3483
Again, I'm so sad that my Nikon D90 camera could not capture the impact & texture of these
gorgeous creations.

This New York Beauty, below had gold threads throughout & she used frosted/glittery white fabrics in the background.  It was spectacular, especially up close.

DSC_3490

My Lil' Twister Christmas Wreath wallhanging won a 2nd place RED ribbon and

DSC_3465
the "Oh My Indigo Stars" won
 a 1st place BLUE RIBBON!

To say I was thrilled is beyond words but I'm sure a big part of the winning was due to Janice Kiser's wonderful long arm quilting.  Thank you, Janice!!

That is the first BLUE ribbon I have ever won in my entire life.

Ms. C. said "Really, Nana?  I have LOTS of blue ones from swimming!"  LOL

I'm so glad you stopped by The Gazebo House today & I hope you'll come back next week, because I still have more to share with you from the show.

I will link this post to Yvonne's StoneGable meme, Tutorials, Tips & Tidbits as well as
The Tablescaper's Seasonal Sunday party.

Sprinkles Galore!

DSC_3403

Today I'm joining Michael Lee, at Rattlebridge Farm
for the second episode of the
Mystery Ingredient Club!

The mystery ingredient this time ...
SPRINKLES!!

All the participants received from Michael Lee,
a *lab rack* of test tube vials, by Wilton,
filled with wonderfully colorful
Halloween sprinkles...including BONES!!

Thank you SO very much, Michael Lee, for such a FUN gift.  I was thrilled to be invited to participate again!

I'm saving the "bones"  to use on top of some orange & brown cupcakes for a Cleveland Browns football game party we have coming up.
(The team is known as the "Dawgs")

DSC_3404

I started using the other colors right away.

I mixed the orange sugar with some other sprinkles of red & green that I already had on hand
to make autumn colored leaf-shaped cookies.

Then just the orange sprinkles dressed up some maple & brown sugar Pop-Tarts for Ms. C. to enjoy,
That child will put sprinkles on ANYTHING!

DSC_3406

Together, she & I dipped two different flavors of Oreo cookies into melted almond bark chocolate
then put them 1/2 way down into the various sprinkles...
she had to try them all, you know!

DSC_3395

One of my favorite ways to use them was with Bugles snacks,
dipped into chocolate & then into the sprinkles.

DSC_3407

these are AWESOME!!
Be forewarned....you can't possibly eat just one...
they are addictive.

DSC_3409

Don't they look like little Witches hats?
My daughter is going to make them for a party that she is having when they all go to see the
performance of "Wicked" here in town.

Such a fun idea!

You'll have to wait till next week to see the VERY BEST way I used the sprinkles, because my photos of a *Gluten FREE* 'White Wine Cake' are on my brand new $$$$ computer....which has already gotten a virus!!!!!!!!!!!  Grrrrr!!!
It is currently in the shop, being cleaned.
I swear, next time, I'm buying a MAC!

Thanks for stopping by The Gazebo House today.
Won't you follow me over to Rattlebridge Farm for Foodie Friday & see all the ingenious ways other participants used ML's sprinkles?
I'm also linking to The Tablescapers Seasonal Sundays.

Two Color Tablescape

DSC_3412

Holy Crimoli..... Cuisine Kathleen's  "Let's Dish" Challenge to do a tablescape with only 2 colors was nearly impossible!

Good Grief...doesn't she know how hard that is for me to do??

DSC_3327

Since autumn in Ohio is my very most favorite season, I went with the obvious color of  Pumpkin ORANGE.

I paired it with white and lots of texture, like these vintage hobnail candlesticks, which were a gift from my sister, Fritzie.
Thanks Sis!!

DSC_3328

Please note that I also arranged the table off to the side with 2 soup tureens & a pumpkin inside a cloche, all done in the same two colors!

DSC_3329

While the white hydrangeas looked beautiful in my tall white milkglass vase,
they began to drop their petals almost as soon as I brought them inside.

DSC_3333

DSC_3330

I switched my centerpiece to this beautiful pumpkin, below, that I found in McKinney, TX,
while visiting my husband's son's family there.
I love its curly vines & tendrils!
 DSC_3338

The little pumpkins surrounding it are actually tiny candles.

DSC_3326

I've paired my pumpkin salad plates and their cute little matching bowls (from Walmart, several years ago) with solid white dishes that have various interesting borders.

DSC_3331

The bees on my Napoleon flatware, (from Horchow), playfully coordinate with the bees on the La Roche glassware that I won from Libby.

DSC_3332

DSC_3323

Instead of lemon for the water, I went with...

what else....

DSC_3340

ORANGE SLICES & ORANGE CRUSH!

DSC_3337

Other areas of the house have some of the same autumnal touches.

DSC_3343

DSC_3344

Okay, I know they aren't EXACTLY Orange
but work with me here, will ya?
I'm trying really hard!

DSC_3347

You KNOW there had to be some other ORANGE CANDY on the table, someplace, right?

DSC_3349

DSC_3351

DSC_3353

I love to see how the evening sun comes in the high dining room window & adds sparkle & shadows to the table.

DSC_3354

DSC_3357

We enjoyed home grown slow-roasted tomato soup (also ORANGE) with bits of fresh basil & croutons.

You can find the printable recipe HERE.

DSC_3364

I didn't forget dessert either....

ORANGE & WHITE DREAMSICLE CAKE!

DSC_3291

I didn't make the cake...it is from our local grocery store, Giant Eagle.
Quite frankly, it wasn't that great & I wouldn't buy it again but hey....
it FIT THE COLOR SCHEME!

DSC_3320

Do I get extra points for forcing myself to eat it, Kathleen???  LOL

I hope you visit Cuisine Kathleen for her Let's Dish party.
I'll also join in Yvonne's Tutorials, Tips & Tidbits at StoneGable and
The Tablescaper's Seasonal Sunday meme and Susan's Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday.

Thanks for stopping by The Gazebo House today.
I'll have a few sewing projects to share with you next week & hopefully, some more delicious photos from the Streetsboro Quilt Show.
